Detailed Curriculum

Detailed Curriculum: The SLOCOE teaching staff of the Early Learning Centers believes that children learn best in a safe and nurturing environment. We support and encourage children to develop at their own pace. We provide developmentally appropriate social/emotional, language and literacy, math, creative and motor development activities that challenge and excite children. We encourage parents to become active participants in their child’s education. We recognize the unique culture and background of all families in our program and we are committed to building strong, supportive partnerships between the school and home environments.

Education

I have a Bachelor of Science in Child Development and an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education

Tell us about yourself and your family?

I am married to my childhood friend, Joe. We grew up living on the same street in Shell Beach. We were neighbors. We used to ride the same school bus together, make fun of each other’s Sunday church outfits and try to see who could roll down the street the fastest, me in my skates, Joe on his skateboard. The funny thing is, we still live on that same street, just in a different house. We are now “empty nesters”, enjoying our dinner and game night visits with our grown-up children, Calam and Karley. We keep asking ourselves, how does time fly by so fast?

What are your classroom strengths?

Your child will develop in many ways—physically, socially, emotionally, in language and literacy, and in thinking (cognitive) skills. Our classroom strength is the sense of community we create, with the children and with you, the parents and families, while all your child’s wonderful development is taking place.

What are some favorite things about working with young children and/or what keeps you passionate motivated about this field?

The preschool field is so important! I feel preschool lays the foundation for a child’s happiness and success as they continue through elementary school and beyond. I love being creative to meet each child’s individual needs of how they grow cognitively, as well as socially and emotionally. A positive relationship with preschool teachers can make an exponential difference, and for this I love being a part in the early childhood field.

Tell us about yourself and your family?

My lovely family consists of my husband, Andres, and my two kids, Mitzy and Andres. We enjoy horseback riding and spending time as a family.

What are your classroom strengths?

My strengths in the classroom include my university preparation and my 35 years of experience in the field, 17 of which were based in Mexico and 18 from the US. I am also bilingual in Spanish and English, responsible, respectful, and helpful beyond the classroom to the community.

What are some favorite things about working with young children and/or what keeps you passionate motivated about this field?

One of my favorite things about working with preschoolers is that the kids are intelligent, special, and unique, as such, they are eager to learn. As a teacher I love passing along values, sharing with them wisdom, and teaching them about science, so that along with their curiosity they are able to discover the world and find success in their lives.
